Atlantic cod and cod became synonyms for people from the European part of the country long time ago. That is one of the most widely spread fish of the North Atlantic.
Natural color of cod is dark green with numerous brown spots. There is a white strip extending along the side line. There are three large fins on the back of the fish. Cod has a chin barbel that serves as an organ of smell and touch and helps the fish to find food on the bottom of the sea.
The word "cod" used to be a synonym of the word "fish" in the Norwegian language for a long time. Norwegians have been catching, processing and selling cod to Europe for more than five centuries and that is why they got a nickname norsk-torsk.
Cod production has become our common business with Norwegians. We catch the same species. Some time ago, a large amount of cod liver was used for making fish oil and nowadays it is used for producing canned delicacy.
